Mackay is a lush tropic region with natural attractions including national parks and gorges, the Great Barrier Reef, tropical islands and unspoilt beaches. The region stretches from Cape Hillsborough in the north, to Clermont in the south-west, to Mackay city and the Cumberland Island group in the east.
Heritage and cultural activities such as gold fossicking, camping and wildlife spotting are available in the hinterland region.
In 2016 the Mackay region will be a community that values its range of leisure experiences and the contribution these experiences make to the liveability and visitor appeal of the region.
