The Outback, Gulf and Western Downs Tourism Opportunity Plan has been developed to identify and provide a strong direction for the continued sustainable development of tourism in the region.
The plan aims to:
- Identify infrastructure upgrades to support tourism growth
- Identify the need for new investment in tourism product development
- Provide relevant research-based information on tourism supply and demand (including forecast modelling until 2017)

The Outback, Gulf and Western Downs Tourism Opportunity Plan was developed through extensive consultation with members of the local tourism industry, local and state government, developers and investors.
Key projects that have been identified include a barramundi stocking program, regional Indigenous story development and a national park ecotourism assessment.
