Outback Destination Tourism Plan

The Outback Destination Tourism Plan, in articulating the agreed tourism direction for the destination, provides the strategic platform and priority actions for:

  • guiding Tourism and Events Queensland, Outback Queensland Tourism Association and other stakeholders' individual planning and programs; and
  • fostering the efficient, effective and coordinated use of resources to grow sustainable tourism development in Outback Queensland to 2020

Outback, Gulf & Western Downs Tourism Opportunity Plan

The Outback, Gulf and Western Downs Tourism Opportunity Plan has been developed to identify and provide a strong direction for the continued sustainable development of tourism in the region. 

The plan aims to:

  • Identify infrastructure upgrades to support tourism growth 
  • Identify the need for new investment in tourism product development 
  • Provide relevant research-based information on tourism supply and demand (including forecast modelling until 2017) 
  • Provide a mechanism for engagement with infrastructure providers and potential investors about the needs of the tourism industry. 

The Outback, Gulf and Western Downs Tourism Opportunity Plan was developed through extensive consultation with members of the local tourism industry, local and state government, developers and investors.

Key projects that have been identified include a barramundi stocking program, regional Indigenous story development and a national park ecotourism assessment.

Outback, Gulf and Western Downs Experiences Development Strategy

The  Outback, Gulf and Western Downs Experiences Development Strategy  aims to identify the hero visitor experiences, competitive strengths, gaps and opportunities for the future positioning, development and marketing of Queensland’s Outback, Gulf and Western Downs.

Through an experiences approach this strategy aims to provide a roadmap for the development and marketing of the region in a way that enhances its competitive advantages, differentiates it from its competitors, and inspires the industry to take action in their own business.
