British arrive on Gold Coast for Big Aussie Reunion
British visitors will be reunited with Australian friends and families on the Gold Coast today thanks to a partnership between Tourism and Events Queensland (TEQ), Flight Centre, Virgin Australia, Etihad Airways and Gold Coast Tourism.
TEQ Chief Executive Leanne Coddington said The Big Aussie Reunion will see 80 friends and family come together for a memorable Queensland holiday, inspiring others to do the same.
“Approximately one third of all UK arrivals to Australia declare visiting friends and relatives as the main purpose of their stay,” said Ms Coddington.
“The Big Aussie Reunion is about encouraging UK travellers to make the most of their Australian visit and enjoy a Queensland holiday with their loved ones.”
The Big Aussie Reunion will see incredible memories created on the Gold Coast including the end to a 38-year search to find a father, just in time to celebrate his 70th birthday; best friends coming together for the first time in 26-years; and twin brothers seeing their other half again.
TEQ and Flight Centre have partnered with the UK’s premier TV network, ITV, which featured The Big Aussie Reunion in the popular UK program, Surprise Surprise, reaching a UK audience of approximately six million.
This partnership will also see national British morning television programme, Good Morning Britain, broadcast live from the Gold Coast where The Big Aussie Reunion British visitors will celebrate Australia Day Queensland-style.
“Good Morning Britain will be broadcast to a UK audience of more than 600,000, showcasing the Gold Coast and Queensland as a spectacular holiday destination to one of the state’s key visitor markets,” said Ms Coddington.
TEQ will work with Flight Centre to offer a series of holiday packages for British residents to have their own Australian reunion in Queensland.
Commenting on the campaign, Sarah Dean, Partnership Marketing Manager of Flight Centre Travel Group UK, said: “Flight Centre is one of the world’s leading Australian travel experts and this campaign demonstrates our unwavering commitment in the UK to promoting Australia as a must-visit travel destination.”
“We are dedicated to delivering the best air fares and holiday deals for our customers and invite them to experience all that Australia, and in particular Queensland, has to offer,” said Ms Dean.
Gold Coast Tourism CEO Martin Winter said The Big Aussie Reunion will see the British visitors and their friends and family experience some of the best tourism experiences on the Gold Coast.
“The UK is one of the top three visitor markets for the Gold Coast, welcoming 62,000 UK visitors in the year to September 2014,” said Mr Winter.
“The Big Aussie Reunion is a fantastic opportunity to capture what is certain to be a memorable Gold Coast experience and inspire an audience of UK visitors to book their own Famous for fun holiday reunion.”
Good Morning Britain will broadcast live from Rainbow Bay Surf Life Saving Club from 4:00pm AEST Monday 26 January 2015. Gold Coast British Expats are invited to come along with a sign to send a message back home.
