Event boost for Queensland's tourism destinations

Tourism and Major Events Minister Kate Jones today announced a new $2 million program to grow events tourism in Queensland.

Minister Jones said the new Queensland Destination Events Program would support a range of Queensland events and help grow the state’s $23 billion tourism industry.

“Under the new program the number of funding rounds will also be increased from two to three per year.

“The Palaszczuk Government is committed to growing tourism in Queensland and we know that events play a vital role in promoting a destination, driving visitation, generating jobs and fostering community pride.”

Ms Jones also announced the final round of funding under the Tourism and Events Queensland’s former Regional Development Program.

“24 events in regional Queensland will share in more than $600,000 in funding,” she said.

“The funding supports events staged in 11 Queensland destinations, ranging from sporting events to cultural celebrations.

“The events receiving funding will be held between October 2015 and June 2018.”
