Maranoa Tourism Coordinator in the running for prestigious national award

Maranoa Regional Council’s Tourism Coordinator, Megan Swords, will represent Queensland in October at the 2015 Australian Regional Tourism Network (ARTN) Young Regional Tourism Professionals Awards.

Tourism and Events Queensland (TEQ) CEO, Leanne Coddington, said the prestigious national awards sought to recognise excellence and passion for regional tourism.

“Megan’s successful nomination was underlined by her understanding of the industry and demonstrated commitment and advocacy for regional tourism,” Ms Coddington said.

“As a finalist Megan will be involved in two mentoring sessions organised by MyTravelResearch.com and represent Queensland the 2015 ARTN Convention in Victor Harbour, South Australia from 19 – 22 October 2015.

“The ARTN Convention will be a great opportunity for Megan to meet with and learn from those who are at the forefront of regional tourism delivery across Australia.”

Ms Coddington said tourism was a vital Queensland industry, contributing $23 billion and supporting more than 230,000 jobs.

“TEQ is focused on building a sustainable and strong tourism industry for Queensland across 13 diverse destinations,” she said.

“Through the YTP Awards program TEQ is able to support young tourism professionals like Megan to gain valuable professional development and advance to become a future industry leader.

“I applaud Megan’s passion for regional tourism and wish her every success in representing Queensland at the ARTN Convention in October.”
