Stage set for European visitors to Queensland

Queensland’s tourism attractions and visitor experiences are on show for 36 European journalists this week as part of Queensland on Stage Europe hosted by Tourism and Events Queensland (TEQ).

TEQ Chief Executive, Leanne Coddington, said several of the State’s regional tourism organisations had partnered with TEQ to bring the largest European media contingent to Queensland in recent years.

“Europe represents an important international visitor market for Queensland with travellers spending $673 million in the last financial year, seven per cent more than the year prior,” Ms Coddington said.

“There is strong interest amongst European travellers for Queensland destinations and experiences as visitor numbers also increased seven per cent in that period to 303,000.

“This visit aims to better connect media from across Germany, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Austria, Belgium and Spain with Queensland’s destinations and convert interest into bookings for tourism businesses.

“Starting off on the Sunshine Coast, the group will spend 10 days touring the State including diving at Lady Elliot Island, island-hopping in the Whitsundays, exploring the Daintree and Cape Tribulation and more.

“Engaging with key European media will ensure Queensland’s destinations are showcased effectively to millions of potential visitors across the continent.”

Ms Coddington said Queensland on Stage Europe formed part of a suite of trade, media and consumer marketing activities promoting Queensland’s tourism experiences to European travellers.

“TEQ has partnered with Singapore Airlines alongside this initiative to actively promote the new SilkAir service between Singapore and Cairns which began in May,” she said.

“Singapore is a major transit hub for European and Asian visitors connecting to Queensland.

“In partnership with Tourism Australia and Singapore Airlines, TEQ will also host a roadshow across Germany from 8-22 September, allowing Queensland tourism businesses to engage with and educate approximately 400 German travel agents and tourism specialists on access and tourism experiences within the State.

“The roadshow will feature a new 24-page trade brochure showcasing Queensland’s destinations, which will also be distributed to approximately 30,000 German travel agents.”

Queensland on Stage Europe runs from 4 – 14 September and is an initiative of TEQ in partnership with Sunshine Coast Destination Ltd, Fraser Coast Opportunities, Brisbane Marketing, Gold Coast Tourism, Whitsundays Marketing & Development Ltd and Tourism Tropical North Queensland.
