In fact, the tourism regions of the Great Barrier Reef have Australia’s largest cohort of eco-certified businesses.\u003C/p\u003E\r\n\u003Cp\u003EIncluded in the ticket price when visiting the reef with a commercial tourism operator is the Environmental Management Charge ($8.00). All funds received are applied directly to the management and conservation of the marine park.\u003C/p\u003E\r\n\u003Cp\u003EThe Reef contributes $6.4 billion to the Australian economy and 90 per cent, or $5.7 billion, is from tourism. Tourism access is regulated by the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority through a permitting system and multi-user zoning plan that governs where certain activities can take place - this is vitally important in the day-to-day management of the marine park and for improving long-term resilience. Tourism is low risk and well managed.
