Get Wet Surf School, located in one of the Gold Coast’s most uncrowded beaches at the Spit is probably your first choice to avoid public face plants, whereas the drop-dead gorgeous Currumbin Alley in the middle of the World Surfing Reserve has bragging rights written all over the sand. \u003C/p\u003E\r\n\u003Cp\u003EThis is the best spot to slowly work your way from the smaller waves near the creek to mastering the right-handers towards the point. Especially if you team up with Surfing Services Australia run by surfing royalty and five-time Australian surf champion Mark ‘Richo’ Richardson. Likewise, you can learn from another legend in neighbouring Burleigh. Cheyne Horan’s School of Surf offers both one hour and half-day private lessons with an aim to pass on skills learned from the champion who clocked up a Billabong Pro and the Quicksilver World Masters championship.  \u003C/p\u003E\r\n\u003Cp\u003ESometimes you need more than just human power. At Surfers Paradise you can a motor into the water and blast out on a Jet Ski Safari Tour, tracking along the calm Broadwater and untamed mangrove estuaries for 20km before arriving at Stradbroke Island just in time for a snorkel amongst the turtles, mantas and tropical fish. Ascribed World Heritage listing in 1985, this spectacular terrain is the setting for a five-day, 55 kilometre guided tour through untouched wilderness on the Spicer Scenic Rim Trail. Hiking enthusiasts will follow an old logging trail deep into Rainforests and take in the dramatic peaks, ridges, and escarpments, ending each day with a hot shower and a hearty meal at the luxe Spicers’ eco-bush camps. Expect to pay a few thousand dollars for this walk. \u003C/p\u003E\r\n\u003Cp\u003EShort on time, but high on nature, Southern Cross Hinterland Tours will get you in and out of the rainforest in a day at a far more achievable price and in super comfortable four wheel drive vehicles. Owners Stephanie and Darran have spent a lifetime camping and exploring this patch of the world and can’t wait to share it. They know their way around postcard perfect waterfalls and rainforest trails of Tamborine National Park, Springbrook National Park and the Lamington Park. They also have the insider’s tips on where to find the best fresh scones, often paired with a panoramic views, in the pretty town of Tamborine Mountain.\u003C/p\u003E\r\n\u003Cp\u003ESpeaking of green, true gourmands will gravitate to Willow Vale Cooking School for some greens within the green. Set on eight acres in the Gold Coast Hinterland, in a beautiful 130-year-old heritage Queenslander, the cooking school is owned by Bruno and Catherine Loubet. A veteran in the restaurant industry, Bruno spent more than 40 years heading up kitchens in London, France and Australia along the way gaining Michelin stars and publishing three cookbooks. His school comes with top reviews and Richard Vines, chief food critic of Bloomberg, laments that “Australia’s gain is United Kindom’s loss”. In the heart of Surfers Paradise, you’ll find more kitchy fun at the joyful QT Gold Coast or The Island, a Gold Coast institution and home of wild pyjama parties from the 1960s. The latter has been revamped, rebuilt and redesigned to within an inch of its laidback life. Here, visitors will love the hotel’s 2018 makeover as much as the swanky six-star and 56 room lavish retreat that opened right next door. Even if you choose not to stay at The Darling, it’s worth visiting Nineteen, the rooftop bar and restaurant buzzing with the Coast’s social set.   \u003C/p\u003E\r\n\u003Cp\u003ELeave the beachside glamour behind and add a bit of chukka to your Gold Coast getaway at Rivermead Estate, a grand plantation home on a 55-acre hinterland getaway at Coomera River Fields. Formerly a dairy farm and part of the local Cobb and Co route, Rivermead Estate is the Gold Coast's original home of polo. It's now an A-Lister retreat with six bedrooms over three levels, two polo playing fields, a huge pool, a private cinema, and sweeping wraparound verandas. \u003C/p\u003E\r\n\u003Cp\u003EBig nature types will want to snuggle in and take a life stripped bare in one of four high-end designer tents on the edge of the Lamington National Park in the magically-named Lost World. Appropriate given there are more than 160 species of sub-tropical birds, a daily bird feeding program, a Bird of Prey show and no less than a ‘magnificent seven’ birds to tick off the twitcher list. This 100-acre parcel of land in the middle of Lamington National Park started almost 110 years ago but the buzz these days is on the newest instalment, the 15 environmentally sustainable safari tents that have just been launched.\u003C/p\u003E\r\n\u003Cp\u003ENot everyone in nature is into camping, and tucked away in the rainforests of the hinterland, you’ll find dozens of boutique cabins and retreats with charming names like the Mouse’s House, uffles Lodge, and Clouds on Beechmont.
