Great Barrier Reef Education Experience Program
The Great Barrier Reef Education Experience Program has been launched to support opportunities for students to undertake place-based learning activities in the Great Barrier Reef, and to provide opportunities for tourism operators in the region to enhance and develop educational products and experiences to stimulate new market travel and subsequent tourism visitation to the Great Barrier Reef.
The Great Barrier Reef Education Experience Program will align with the school curriculum, and resources will be developed for schools and teachers to support alignment with the themes of the Great Barrier Reef within the Australian school curriculum.
The program will provide up to $150 per student for eligible students to go towards travel, accommodation and experience expenses on the reef excursion.
The subsidy is available upon application to all Queensland primary and secondary schools.
The program will be available for all primary and secondary schools in Queensland to undertake school excursions along the length of the Great Barrier Reef, from Cooktown to Bundaberg.
Information on how to apply and supporting resources will be available on the Department of Tourism, Innovation and Sport’s website as the program rollout commences.
