Tourism and Events Queensland has teamed up with Channel 7 commentary legend Bruce McAvaney to promote Queensland as a holiday destination to the millions of Australians set to tune into Saturday’s historic AFL Grand Final.

Under the innovative approach, McAvaney has lent his voice to a series of short videos, commentating as visitors enjoy the very best of what Queensland has to offer.

The videos, which showcase all 11 of Queensland’s tourism regions, will be shown throughout the Channel 7 coverage of the AFL Grand Final, which will reach an audience of more than three million people.

TEQ chief executive Leanne Coddington said Saturday’s broadcast was a unique opportunity to show millions of Australians why Queensland is the perfect next holiday destination.

“The AFL Grand Final is one of the highest rating, if not the highest rating, sports events in Australia every year so we were determined to find a way to use this opportunity, in partnership with Channel 7, to show millions of Australian the true beauty of Queensland,” she said.

“We could think of no-one better, or more synonymous with the AFL, than Bruce McAvaney to do just that and we are beyond excited that he has voiced these very special videos.

“When you think of great moments in AFL grand final history you think of Bruce calling the action, and now his unique voice and turn of phrase will be calling all the Queensland action as well.

“The videos show the very best of Queensland – from the unrivalled beauty of Cairns and the Great Barrier Reef, to the perfect waters of the Whitsundays, the vast open spaces of the Outback and the enviable lifestyle of the Gold Coast.

“There really is something for everyone in Queensland and while not everyone can travel here right now, we want people to start dreaming about and planning their next Queensland holiday so when restrictions ease, they can come straight here and join us in paradise.

“This year, Queensland has shown Australia that there is nowhere better in terms of hosting events and putting on sporting spectacles, but at the same time we have showcased our unbeatable way of life which we want as many people as possible to come and experience for themselves.”

Channel 7 Head of Network Sport Lewis Martin said Queensland had proven itself an ideal host for the 2020 AFL Grand Final.

“Without Queensland the extraordinary story of the 2020 AFL season would never have been told,” he said.

The new videos will be played throughout Channel 7’s exclusive coverage of the 2020 AFL Grand Final.
