Events funding to boost tourism across Queensland
05 September 2018
Events across Queensland will receive a combined $799,000 in funding as part of a program supporting tourism throughout the state.
The latest round of the Queensland Destination Events Program (QDEP), funded by the Queensland Government through Tourism and Events Queensland (TEQ), will support 20 events.
This funding through QDEP will see Queensland events supported which have strong growth potential in terms of audience or participation numbers, positively profile host communities and deliver economic benefits.
It will support a mixture of events, taking place from December 2018 to January 2020, from music, arts and film festivals to sporting and lifestyle events.
Events held in a range of Queensland destinations, from Burleigh Heads to Mossman, as far west as Maranoa and east to Agnes Water, will receive funding.
Since its inception in 2015, the program has invested more than $6.6 million in events which also feature in the state’s It’s Live! in Queensland calendar, worth $780 million to the economy in 2018.
Events to receive funding through the program for the first time include the Cycling Fest International, One Hot Night, 12 Towers Ocean Paddle Race, 2019 Great Western Games, Cobb & Co Festival – Australia’s Last Run, River Dragon Festival and Croc Nash Hash 2019.
The funding provided will assist event organisers with marketing costs, strategic plan development, and hiring staff in addition to event infrastructure.
Under QDEP there are three funding rounds per year. The next round is open until 10 October 2018 for events held between May 2019 and May 2020.
