New board for Events Management Queensland

01 March 2019

Tourism and Events Queensland (TEQ) has today announced a new board for Events Management Queensland (EMQ), the organisation responsible for delivering the Gold Coast Marathon and the Pan Pacific Masters Games.

Sara Carrigan, Tanya Diessel, Paul Donovan, Sarah Kelly, Joell Ogilvie and Benita Willis-Johnson have been appointed to the board of EMQ, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Tourism and Events Queensland (TEQ).

The new appointments replace long-term board members Daphne Pirie, Mark Reaburn and Lindsay Wallace while EMQ Chairman Kerry Watson will stay-on to oversee the transition and Nick Elliott will continue as TEQ’s representative.

Mr Watson said the new board members possessed the right mix of skills to continue to drive EMQ forward, while thanking the outgoing members for their years of hard work.

“I’m certain Paul, Sara, Tanya, Sarah, Joell and Benita will bring the right skills to the table to ensure EMQ continues to deliver world-class events for the people of the Gold Coast,” he said.

“The Gold Coast Marathon has grown to become one of the world’s elite marathon races while the Pan Pacs attract tens of thousands of people to the city.

“These two events could not have become what they are without the guidance and knowledge of Daphne, Mark and Lindsay and I thank them for all their hard work over the years.”

TEQ chair Brett Godfrey said EMQ had consistently delivered strong results for the Gold Coast economy.

“I’d like to acknowledge and thank all outgoing board members for their outstanding track record. After many years of dedicated service it is the right time to renew the board for this next period of growth with these iconic Gold Coast events,” Mr Godfrey said.

“Last year alone, the Gold Coast Marathon and the Pan Pacific Masters Games injected more than $50m into the Gold Coast economy and attracted tens of thousands of participants from interstate and overseas who not only competed but stayed on and enjoyed the Gold Coast’s world-class tourism experiences.

“Events are a powerful way to drive strong tourism outcomes for a destination and the Gold Coast is a perfect example of how events bring people back over-and-over again.

“EMQ’s events combined with the strong Gold Coast presence on TEQ’s It’s Live! In Queensland events calendar ensures the city continues to be one of Australia’s best events destinations.”
