Queensland’s latest tourism marketing promotion has sold out four days ahead of schedule

Queenslanders have booked out discounted flights and holiday experiences around the state through the Great Queensland Getaway campaign – an initiative under the Palaszczuk Government’s Economic Recovery Plan.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said more than $10.5 million in tourism experiences had been booked during the campaign.

“Supporting tourism businesses to rebuild and recover from the pandemic is an important part of our Economic Recovery Plan,” the Premier said.

“That’s why we’re investing in campaigns like Great Queensland Getaways to drive bookings.

“In ten days, this campaign has generated more than 43,000 bookings throughout the state.

“This will pump millions of dollars into struggling tourism businesses and support local jobs.

“We’ll continue to work hard to get as many Queenslanders vaccinated as possible and support the state’s tourism sector to build back stronger.”

Tourism Minister Stirling Hinchliffe said while the Great Queensland Getaway campaign had sold out, bargain holidays were still up for grabs in the Sunshine State.

“This is just one part of a campaign we expect will generate $80 million in overnight visitor expenditure throughout Queensland’s tourism industry,” he said.

“Although the promo code deals and Virgin Australia’s special $75 airfares have sold out there are still bargains for holidaymakers.

“Our Great Queensland Getaway campaign partners Greyhound Australia, Accor, MyQueensland and Viva Holidays continue to offer getaway deals until Sunday 31, October 2021.

“Tourism operators all around the state – from the Far North, Central and Outback Queensland to the Southeast – are enthusiastic about by the surge in getaway bookings that should see many through the festive season.

“We really wanted to see Queenslanders travelling far and exploring world-class holiday experiences their home state.

“Campaign partner Virgin Australia has sold out $75 sale airfares between Brisbane and the Whitsundays, Townsville and Cairns which will see tens of thousands of flights taking Queenslanders on holidays.

“There are still good flight deals on offer.

“The discounted tourism experiences on offer from hundreds of businesses Queensland have been hugely popular, with more than 130,000 holidaymakers competing for a limited number of deals.

“We invested $8 million in the Great Queensland Getaway in one of the Palaszczuk Government’s biggest-ever tourism campaigns, delivering strong returns for tourism operators hit hard by the Covid-19 pandemic.”

Tourism and Events Queensland Chief Executive Officer Leanne Coddington said the campaign had delivered strongly for the state’s tourism industry.

“This campaign has achieved exactly what we’d hoped – huge support from Queenslanders and a significant boost for operators all around the state,” Ms Coddington said.

“The industry had asked us to build on the success of previous campaigns and really drive bookings to their door, and we’re very pleased at how well the Great Queensland Getaway has been able to do that.

“We’ve also worked closely with campaign partners to drive demand all the around the state and offer deals for all part of the holiday experience – from transport to accommodation, to tourism experiences and offering whole holiday packages.

“The feedback from the industry has been extremely positive.”

Remaining deals with campaign partners can still be found at Queensland.com until 6:00pm AEST Sunday, 31 October 2021.
