One of China’s most famous celebrity families is experiencing some of Queensland’s best destinations this week as part of a filming tour led by National Geographic Magazine China.

Chinese celebrity Lu Yi, his wife Bao Lei and daughter Lu Yuxuan rose to celebrity-family fame after Yi, a celebrity in his own right, starred alongside their daughter in Chinese reality TV show Where Are We Going, Dad? which has 75 million viewers per episode.

Tourism and Events Queensland (TEQ) CEO Leanne Coddington said the family is spending 10 days exploring the Gold Coast, Fraser Coast, Sunshine Coast and the Southern Great Barrier Reef, ahead of the Chinese New Year.

“We are hosting the family and National Geographic Magazine China for 10 days capturing vision which will be viewed by millions of Chinese,” Ms Coddington said.

“With China the fastest growing tourism market for Queensland, this is one of the many TEQ-supported initiatives designed to inspire more Chinese travellers to experience the best address on earth.”

TEQ is supporting the Lu family’s visit, in partnership with Gold Coast Tourism, with a range of vision and publicity to be released by National Geographic Magazine China later in the year featuring the family in spectacular Queensland tourism destinations.

“Queensland will also feature across a number of National Geographic Magazine China digital assets. TEQ will also share content via its own digital assets,” said Ms Coddington.

Lu Yi will share his family’s Queensland travel experiences with his 23 million Weibo followers, China’s version of Facebook.

“The visit couldn’t be timelier with Chinese New Year about to start and thousands of Chinese visitors expected to fly to Queensland for celebrations right across the state.”

The Lu family will get a taste of some of the experiences most popular amongst Chinese visitors such as wildlife encounters, theme parks and beaches on the Gold Coast; fish feeding, snorkelling and a scenic flight over the Southern Great Barrier Reef; taking in the natural beauty of Fraser Island; and experiencing the culinary delights of Noosa and Brisbane City.
