Filmmakers capture ‘1 Day in Paradise’

Starting this week, 20 filmmakers will embark on a Tropical North Queensland adventure capturing their idea of ‘1 Day in Paradise’ as part of a major global tourism initiative.
Tourism Minister Jann Stuckey said the films will capture a range of experiences aimed to increase the appeal of the beautiful Tropical North Queensland region.
“The campaign will see 20 film-oriented storytellers competing for a $75,000 cash prize by producing two-minute films using GoPro cameras,” Ms Stuckey said.
“The films will feature the region’s best attractions including the ancient rainforests, food and dining options, wilderness adventures, Indigenous cultural offerings and the Great Barrier Reef.
“This content will be published via YouTube in May and the filmmakers will also share their visual interpretations of the region with their global audiences and encourage them to vote for and share their favourite films.”
The campaign forms part of a Tourism and Events Queensland (TEQ) marketing partnership with Tourism Tropical North Queensland (TTNQ).
Ms Stuckey said highlights from the storytellers’ films would be used to create movie trailer-style clips to be aired in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne in May via cinemas, television and online, including roving ‘pop-up cinemas’.
“The idea is to use engaging, authentic stories to present the Tropical North in a new light and encourage people to stay longer,” she said.
“In June, a panel of Queensland tourism industry representatives will choose a winner of the GoPro challenge based on community engagement, creativity and how close they adhered to the film brief.”
TTNQ CEO Rob Giason said the filmmakers’ vision of ’1 Day in Paradise’ would showcase Tropical North Queensland and inspire them to holiday in the region.
"This creative campaign will tell the story of our unique place, people and unrivalled environment with our dual World Heritage areas of the Great Barrier Reef and the Wet Tropics rainforest," Mr Giason said.
