21 June 2013
Elisa Detrez, an online marketer from France, was today announced the winner of Queensland’s Park Ranger position as part of the ‘Best Jobs in the World’ global tourism drive.
The Tourism Australia campaign targeted youth travellers and involved state and territory organisations including Tourism and Events Queensland.
Acting Minister for Tourism, Major Events, Small Business and the Commonwealth Games Glen Elmes said Elisa was chosen from 10,000 applicants for Queensland’s Park Ranger position.
“It was a tough challenge for the final three candidates and they presented a tough choice for the selection panel,” Mr Elmes said.
“Throughout the selection process Elisa demonstrated she has the skills to rise to the challenge of the role and attract a global following during the six-month contract.
“Her enthusiasm and professionalism impressed the judges as did her ideas for how she will make the role her own.”
Elisa comes from Paris, has degrees in Business Management Tourism and Political Sciences, speaks four languages and has lived and worked in Spain, New Zealand and Germany.
Mr Elmes said Elisa showed a true passion for Queensland and would be a great tourism ambassador for the State.
“Queensland has always been a popular destination for young overseas visitors, welcoming 650,000 international youth travellers in the year to March 2013,” he said.
“Our natural attractions are a major drawcard. Queensland boasts five World Heritage-listed areas as well as hundreds of national and marine parks, with amazing nature-based tourism experiences.
“As Park Ranger, Elisa’s office will be a selection of the State’s spectacular natural settings.
“TEQ has worked in partnership with the State’s tourism operators, Adventure Queensland, and Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service to develop an itinerary which will incorporate an array of adventure and nature-based tourism experiences throughout the State.”
