Gold Coast wins bid to host inaugural Corroboree West 2017

26 September 2016

The Gold Coast has won the right to host the first Corroboree West in October 2017, one of Australia’s largest forums for international frontline travel specialists.

The event provides a professional forum for these specialist agents to strengthen their product knowledge to better promote Queensland and the rest of the country.

Minister for Tourism and Major Events, Kate Jones, said the inaugural Corroboree West would be an opportunity to showcase Queensland’s attractions and experiences to key Western market travel specialists.

“This is a great win for the Gold Coast and Queensland, showcasing our amazing tourism experiences first-hand to 300 front-line international buyers,” Ms Jones said.

“The event will combine training workshops and familiarisations to better educate international buyers on the diverse experiences on offer throughout Queensland.

“This is a major boost on the back of record visitation and expenditure growth this year where we welcomed 2.5 million international visitors who spent $5.1 billion in the year to June 2016, increases of 11 per cent.”

After successfully hosting the 2016 Australian Tourism Exchange (ATE16) in May, the Gold Coast is perfectly positioned to capitalise on another major trade event.

Tourism and Events Queensland (TEQ) CEO, Leanne Coddington, said Queensland and the Gold Coast would reap significant benefits from Corroboree West 2017.

“We had fantastic outcomes in hosting ATE16 on the Gold Coast this year and Corroboree West is another chance to shine the light on Queensland to hundreds of key Western market travel specialists,” Ms Coddington said.

“The opportunity for these specialists to see Queensland’s unique experiences first-hand adds significant value to the way international buyers promote Queensland to the world.”

Visiting travel specialists for Corroboree West 2017 will originate from key Western markets including the United States, Canada, Brazil, United Kingdom, Germany, France, Italy and Rest of Europe.

The event is organised by Tourism Australia in partnership with Tourism and Events Queensland and Gold Coast Tourism.
