Home town hero Adam Scott to play the Australian PGA Championship

21 July 2016

Adam Scott is headed home to the Gold Coast for the Australian PGA Championship to be played at RACV Royal Pines Resort from 1-4 December.

An Australian fan favourite, Scott is looking forward to teeing it up in his home state for the first time since 2014.

"I always love coming back to Australia and competing," said Scott, who won the Joe Kirkwood Cup in 2013.

"The support I receive from the Aussie golf fans makes for a special week, especially when I am playing in my hometown, the Gold Coast."

A long time highlight on the ISPS HANDA PGA Tour of Australasia, Scott is also looking forward to experiencing the new look Australian PGA Championship now that it's co-sanctioned by the European Tour.

"The European Tour is where I first started my professional career so it's great to see a co-sanctioning with tournaments in Australia," added Scott.

Delighted to welcome home Adam Scott is PGA of Australia ChiefExecutive Officer Brian Thorburn.

"Adam coming home and playing on the Gold Coast was a key focus for us this year when organising the Australian PGA Championship," said Thorburn.

"While the tournament is now co-sanctioned by the European Tour and we anticipate some quality Europeans competing, it is important to us that our home grown talent also tees it up."

"Aussie fans love cheering on their own and I am sure Adam will have large crowds supporting him this year at RACV Royal Pines Resort."

Queensland Minister for Tourism and Major Events Kate Jones said having one of the world's best players competing in his hometown was a great coup for the Championship.

"It's great to have some of the world's best golfers come to Queensland, and it's even more special when you have a hugely popular local like Adam Scott playing in the field," Ms Jones said.

"Hosting the Australian PGA Championship reinforces Queensland's international reputation as a world class sporting events destination.

"The Championship is part of Queensland's vibrant major events calendar which showcases the state to the world, drawing visitors and supporting jobs for local communities."

The Australian PGA Championship will be played at RACV Royal Pines Resort from 1-4 December and will be co-sanctioned by the ISPS HANDA PGA Tour of Australasia and European Tour for the second consecutive year.

The Queensland Government through Tourism and Events Queensland as well as the City of Gold Coast and Gold Coast Tourism proudly supports the Championship. Visit the Australian PGA Championship website at for further details.
