Tourism campaign promotes natural wonders of the Mackay region
22 February 2016
Queenslanders will discover the Mackay region’s nature-based tourism offerings as part of a new marketing campaign which kicks off this week.
Tourism and Events Queensland (TEQ) Chief Executive, Leanne Coddington, said the campaign would target the destination’s short-haul drive markets of Townsville, Gladstone, Rockhampton and the greater Mackay region, extending south to Brisbane.
“An initiative of TEQ, in partnership with Mackay Tourism and industry, this activity is the next installation of The Mackay Region – Nature. Reserved. campaign aimed at driving visitation and boosting regional tourism,” Ms Coddington said.
“Our intention is to encourage more Queenslanders to make the short drive or flight to the Mackay region and reserve their holiday in this nature-filled tourism treasure of Queensland, the best address on earth.
“Holiday deals from 15 tourism operators based in the Mackay region will feature throughout the campaign.”
Ms Coddington said the campaign will include the promotion of destination videos, stories about the region’s amazing offerings and advertising in media outlets online and state-wide.
“Activity will feature the Mackay region’s up-close wildlife experiences such as platypus spotting at Broken River or watching the sunrise with kangaroos at Cape Hillsborough, and unspoilt natural landscapes and pristine rainforests, including Pioneer Valley, Eungella National Park and Finch Hatton Gorge,” Ms Coddington said.
“Island and beach escapes will also be showcased, including Keswick Island and the Hibiscus Coast, as well as recreational fishing and boating experiences on offer throughout the destination, including the wonder of the Great Barrier Reef.”
Mackay Tourism Interim General Manager, James Corvan, said the changing face of the local economy has resulted in a need to have a concentrated focus on the leisure tourism market.
“The Mackay Region – Nature. Reserved. campaign is an effort to further establish our destination’s tourism brand and to increase awareness of our region,” Mr Corvan said.
“This is the highest level of support from operators in a number of years, which shows further interest in the leisure market and is a great example of industry working together.”
