Gold Coast to remain home to popular NetFest

08 April 2015

NETBALL AUSTRALIA: The Gold Coast will remain home to the hugely popular NetFest in 2015 under a new partnership announced between Netball Australia and the Queensland Government, through Tourism and Events Queensland.

NetFest, Netball Australia’s mass participation event, has rapidly grown in popularity among the netball community in Australia and New Zealand since introduced in 2011 and attracts thousands of people to the Gold Coast each year.

The 2015 NetFest will be held from 8-11 October and Netball Australia CEO Kate Palmer is delighted the Queensland Government is continuing to provide support to what has become a major event for the Gold Coast region.

“The Gold Coast is the perfect place for this celebration of netball,” Palmer said.

“The dream that was NetFest four years ago has met our expectations, but we also know that this wonderful event can be bigger and better, and each year we strive to improve the experience.

“It’s about every single person that goes to NetFest having a wonderful time with their friends, their netball teammates and also the wider netball community.

“We have big ambitions for this event which our partners share; we’re really excited to continue the partnership.”

In 2014 NetFest attracted more than 2200 competitors across the traditional outdoor and beach netball competitions.

Palmer said there are some exciting new initiatives planned for this year’s event.

Minister for Tourism, Major Events and the Commonwealth Games, Kate Jones, said netball was one of the largest participation sports in Australia, with more than 300,000 registered players.

“The Palaszczuk Government is proud to support NetFest 2015, through Tourism and Events Queensland, as an event which delivers in excess of 10,000 visitor nights for the Gold Coast,” Ms Jones said.

“Major participatory events such as NetFest play an important role in growing tourism and a strong tourism industry means jobs for Queenslanders.

“With netball also being a Commonwealth Games sport, NetFest 2015 will continue to bolster the Gold Coast’s reputation as a premier sporting destination in the lead up to the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games.”

Team registrations for the 2015 events open on 10 May with a special `Early Bird’ discount offer. For more information about NetFest visit
