New app drives visitors to holiday in Queensland

26 August 2015

Tourism and Events Queensland (TEQ) has launched a range of new features on the This is Queensland app designed to increase the number of drive visitors who travel throughout Queensland each year.

TEQ Chief Executive, Leanne Coddington, said drive visitors were an important market for many of Queensland’s destinations and the enhanced app assisted in promoting attractions, experiences and itineraries that would appeal to drive visitors.

“In the year ending March 2015, 12.7 million drive visitors travelled throughout Queensland with 856,000 visitors making a trip of at least three stopovers and staying four nights,” Ms Coddington said.

“The recent enhancements to the This is Queensland app make planning and sharing a Queensland drive holiday easier than ever before. Ultimately, we want people to stay longer and enjoy as many experiences as possible on their journey.”

Ms Coddington said the added functionality meant users could search for drive itineraries across Queensland’s 13 destinations and tailor their trip to suit individual interests.

“The app can be used while travelling to locate local accommodation, attractions and events,” she said.

“It also features more holiday tips and suggestions from local tourism businesses to assist visitors in getting the most out of their Queensland drive holiday.

“A list of more WiFi locations can be found in the app to help travellers stay connected and share their holiday experiences while on the road.”

The This is Queensland app is available for free download from both the Apple Store (iPhone) and Google Play (Android), ranked number one for the search term ‘Queensland’.
