Queensland's experiences on show in Korea

20 September 2016

Thirteen tourism operators from across Queensland are in Seoul today, meeting with around 100 key trade partners to promote their products and the State as part of Queensland on Tour Korea 2016.

Tourism and Events Queensland (TEQ) Chief Executive Officer Leanne Coddington said the mission would help operators develop further business opportunities with the growing Korean market.

“In the year ending June 2016 there was an 18 per cent increase in Korean visitors travelling to Queensland, contributing more than $214 million to the State’s economy,” Ms Coddington said.

“More and more Koreans are choosing to visit Queensland so it’s crucial we continue to foster strong partnerships with this important market.

“Asia’s growing middle class presents Queensland with an enormous opportunity to significantly grow the State’s tourism economy in the coming years.

“We know the new Korean traveller wants to experience unique destinations and this is an opportunity to profile Queensland and our amazing experiences.

“Ultimately, through our Queensland Asia Tourism Strategy 2016-2025, we aim to accelerate the rate in which the Korean market is growing and inspire more visitors to come to Queensland.”

The group will have a full day of seminars, one-on-one appointments, gain market insights and have the opportunity to present their products to wholesalers and travel agents.

“Korean travellers have direct access into Queensland with Korean Air flying into Brisbane and Jin Air commencing flights into Cairns under the Attracting Aviation Investment Fund (AAIF).

“It’s important we keep our travel partners engaged and up to date on Queensland’s experiences and products.

“Our biggest advantage is that Queensland has everything the modern Korean traveller aspires to experience, it’s important that we share this with trade partners.”
