Queensland experiences showcased in Japan

14 September 2016

Tourism operators from across Queensland have set out to attract more Japanese visitors to the State by taking part in Queensland on Tour Japan 2016.

A group of 20 Queensland tourism businesses, led by Tourism and Events Queensland (TEQ), will meet with around 300 key trade partners in Osaka, Nagoya and Tokyo from 14 – 16 September 2016.

“We have recently seen double digit growth in the number of Japanese visitors travelling to Queensland,” Tourism and Events Queensland Chief Executive Officer Leanne Coddington said.

“It’s important for our industry to travel to our key international source markets and showcase Queensland’s tourism experiences.

“The operators taking part will have the opportunity to establish and strengthen relationships with key trade partners as well as wholesale and retail travel agents.”

The group will gain insights into the resurgent Japanese market through workshops, seminars, marketplace appointments and networking functions.

“The mission focuses on profiling the State’s tourism experiences and also raises the profile of Queensland as the ideal destination for Japanese travellers,” said Ms Coddington.

“Around 186,000 Japanese travellers visited Queensland in the year ending June 2016, an increase of 21 per cent which contributed $364 million to the tourism economy.

“As part of our Queensland Asia Tourism Strategy 2016-2025 we want the State to be recognised as the leading Australian destination for Asian travellers.

“International missions such as these are important in establishing connections within the market and showcase the State’s unique and diverse experiences.”
