Queensland tours Continental Europe to promote the State’s holiday experiences
18 January 2017
Twenty-two Queensland tourism operators travelled across Continental Europe to sell the State’s unrivalled holiday experiences as part of Tourism and Events Queensland’s (TEQ) Queensland on Tour roadshow.
The delegation met with more than 300 key international tourism trade partners in Germany, Italy and Switzerland in a bid to inspire more Europeans to visit Queensland.
TEQ Chief Executive Officer, Leanne Coddington, said the week-long roadshow enabled Queensland businesses to showcase their product first-hand to travel agents, product managers, wholesalers, airlines, trade media and front line reservation staff.
“Queensland on Tour Europe is a chance to raise the profile of Queensland’s experience offering to the travel industry in Continental Europe,” Ms Coddington said.
“The travelling delegation includes tour operators, accommodation providers, island resorts and a number of Queensland’s Regional Tourism Organisations.
“These operators live and breathe Queensland tourism and there’s no better way to tell our story than from the locals themselves.”
Ms Coddington said the most recent international visitation results for Europe, including the UK, had risen over the past year.
“Queensland welcomed almost 527,000 visitors from Europe and the UK in the year ending September 2016, an increase of two per cent,” Ms Coddington said.
“Establishing and strengthening relationships with tourism trade partners in key international markets like Europe is critical to growing this number.”
Ms Coddington said TEQ was also running two additional trade events in the United Kingdom and Nordic regions on the back of Queensland on Tour Europe 2017.
“The operators will continue on a two-day trip to Copenhagen and London from 18-19 January, providing further sales and training opportunities with trade partners in those cities,” Ms Coddington said.
The 2017 Queensland on Tour Europe roadshow will take place from 11-18 January 2017 and travel to, Zurich, Milan, Allgäu, Nüremberg and Düsseldorf.
