Queensland tourism shines at national awards

Sixteen Queensland tourism businesses have been recognised for their contribution to Australia’s tourism industry at the Qantas Australian Tourism Awards.

Minister for Tourism, Major Events and Small Business, Kate Jones, congratulated Queensland’s national winners and said the awards were a fantastic result that reinforced the diversity and appeal of Queensland tourism.

“Tourism operators from destinations across the state, including the Gold Coast, Brisbane, Sunshine Coast, Southern Queensland Country, Southern Great Barrier Reef, Whitsundays and Tropical North Queensland, were recognised with five Gold, two Silver and nine Bronze awards,” Minister Jones said.

“The Qantas Australian Tourism Awards recognise excellence in industry in 2014 and I congratulate the 27 Queensland finalists and in particular the 16 winners.

“Tourism is vital to Queensland’s economic prosperity contributing $23 billion to the economy and sustaining 241,000 Queensland jobs.”

Queensland Tourism Industry Council (QTIC) Chief Executive Daniel Gschwind congratulated all Queensland award recipients and finalists for their commitment to growing and improving tourism and travel experiences.

“Receiving national industry recognition is testament to the dedication and perseverance among our state’s tourism businesses to continually raise the standards of quality tourism experiences,” Mr Gschwind said.
