Queensland tourism targets Indonesia on trade tour

17 February 2013

Twelve Queensland tourism operators will travel to Indonesia this week on a trade mission to capitalise on the growing Indonesia visitor market.

Minister for Tourism, Jann Stuckey, said the inaugural sales mission would allow operators to meet with more than 150 Indonesian travel wholesalers, retail agents and media.

“Queensland on Tour – Indonesia, will give the participating businesses the opportunity to educate key Indonesian tourism players on Queensland tourism products and negotiate future business deals,” Ms Stuckey said.

“There are some excellent growth opportunities in Indonesia, particularly in the business and incentive travel market, which is the basis for the first ever sales mission to the country.

“Queensland operators will spend their time in Jakarta, which is timely following Garuda Indonesia’s decision to commence new daily flights from Jakarta to Brisbane later this year.

“Gold Coast Tourism, Brisbane Marketing and operators from several Queensland destinations will be represented on the mission including theme parks, accommodation providers, touring products and a wildlife sanctuary.”

Ms Stuckey said the new Garuda Indonesia Jakarta-Bali-Brisbane service was an added bonus for the State.

“These flights will provide direct access for the influential Indonesian business market and will increase Queensland’s connections with Asia,” she said.

It’s predicted that South-East Asia, including Indonesia, will grow to $700 million in visitor expenditure in Queensland by 2020.

Participating tourism businesses include:

Village Roadshow Themeparks (Gold Coast)

Tangalooma Island Resort (Brisbane region)

Paradise Jet Boating (Gold Coast)

Hot Air Gold Coast and Cairns

Gold Coast Island Adventures

Southern Cross 4WD Tours (Gold Coast)

Islander Resort Hotel (Gold Coast)
