Queensland wildlife in picturesque digital tourism campaign

15 June 2015

Queensland’s native wildlife will star in a new Tourism and Events Queensland (TEQ) digital marketing campaign, thanks to an artistic twist on a series of animal images.

The Animal Encounters campaign features 12 illustrated portraits of Queensland wildlife characterised by artist Yago Partal – who has gained global recognition for his Zoo Portraits series.

TEQ Chief Executive Officer, Leanne Coddington, said Queensland’s native animals were major drawcards for international travellers.

“Australia is renowned for its native wildlife which visitors can experience at destinations throughout the state,” Ms Coddington said.

“Research conducted by Tourism Australia indicates Australian wildlife encounters are the second most appealing attraction for international visitors to the country.

“This digital marketing campaign aims to boost visitation to the state’s wildlife parks where visitors can enjoy meeting our native animals and cuddle a koala such as ‘Hamilton’, who is profiled in this campaign.”

Ms Coddington said the Zoo Portraits series had proved hugely popular around the world and the Queensland characters would assist in drawing attention to the state’s visitor experiences.

“Queensland wildlife are consistently the most ‘liked’ posts on our social media channels.

“This campaign will illustrate the unique wildlife experiences available to Queensland visitors.”

TEQ has 1.2 million highly-engaged Facebook fans, 150,000 Instagram and 77,000 Twitter followers, while it also topped the list of Skift’s 10 best destinations on social media in December 2014.
