Summer campaign entices Brisbane families to the country

07 January 2013

A new Southern Queensland Country tourism marketing campaign valued at $135,000 is encouraging Brisbane families to discover a relaxing summer country escape before the end of the school holidays.

Southern Queensland Country Tourism CEO Mary-Clare Power said the Southern Queensland Country Summer campaign would showcase the destination to potential holidaymakers seeking an alternative to summer crowds and the beach.

“Bringing together the regions of Toowoomba, Western Downs, South Burnett, Warwick and surrounds and Granite Belt, Southern Queensland Country is renowned as Queensland’s premier country getaway destination,” Ms Power said.

Southern Queensland Country Tourism Chair Dr Jane Summers said that the Southern Queensland Country Summer campaign is running in partnership with Tourism and Events Queensland (TEQ) and 12 industry partners and aims to entice city dwellers to take a respite from the stresses of urban life.

“The campaign targets families in the gap between Christmas and the end of the school holidays and showcases Southern Queensland Country’s natural attractions as an alternative to the typical beach break.

“Southern Queensland Country is ideal for Brisbane families who have returned from a holiday and would like to re-charge their batteries one more time before the school year starts, offering plenty of great rural experiences,” Dr Summers said.

Ms Power added that the campaign would run until mid-February and include prominent print, radio and online coverage.

“Several operators are offering great deals, including stay for three nights and pay for two, inclusive meals and free entry offers to attractions.

“The campaign entices families to relax and enjoy the natural attributes, national parks and freshwater creeks and waterways that Southern Queensland Country is renowned for.”

“This is the first time Southern Queensland Country Tourism and TEQ have joined forces to launch the biggest summer campaign for the destination.”
