Message from Tourism and Events Queensland CEO, Leanne Coddington
The effects of ex-Tropical Cyclone Debbie are being felt throughout numerous Queensland tourism regions and our thoughts are with those communities who have been feeling the impacts.
I would like to share my appreciation and heartfelt thanks to everyone who has worked tirelessly to ensure the safety and wellbeing of visitors in the affected regions. It has been a challenging time that has demonstrated the resilience of Queensland’s tourism industry, and is a testament to our strength as a community.
Tourism and Events Queensland is working with the Department of Tourism, Major Events, Small Business and the Commonwealth Games and Regional Tourism Organisations to ensure the necessary support is provided to industry. As we activate our recovery effort our clear message is: don’t cancel your holiday. The best way people can support Queensland is to come for a holiday.
Operators in areas including the Whitsundays are focused on getting back to business as quickly as possible. Across the state there are many areas that are ready to welcome visitors. Please continue to share your positive content and stories through social media by using the hash tag #thisisqueensland.
Again, thank you for your strength and commitment throughout this time and we look forward to working with you through this time.
