Tourism and Events Queensland (TEQ) provides tourism research and insights to a variety of stakeholders which can assist decision-making and strategy development.
As part of this, TEQ manages the analysis and publication of results for Queensland based on major national tourism surveys: the National Visitor Survey, International Visitor Survey, Survey of Tourist Accommodation and Overseas Arrivals and Departures. Results from other research projects are also collated to ensure a robust cross-section of tourism information.
Primary research is also undertaken by TEQ to better understand the needs of Queensland's visitor target markets and the experiences Queensland's destinations can offer to meet those needs. This research includes consumer demand research, segmentation research, destination brand health analysis and analysis of community attitudes to tourism.
Visitation to Queensland
These fact sheets provide an overview of total visitors to Queensland and its regions, i.e both domestic and international. The information includes number of visitors, their reason for travel and their expenditure.
Note: Due to small sample sizes, the three-year trend change has been used to analyse changes in some regions
New National Visitor Survey methodology, 2019
Tourism Research Australia has transitioned NVS sampling to 100% mobile phone interviews (from 50% mobile phone/50% landline) to reflect current phone usage trends. The change in methodology has seen a break in series, so please use caution when comparing 2019 results with previous time periods. Note that 2017 and 2018 estimates have been revised to align with the latest release of ABS population projections and will differ slightly from previously published estimates.
For the revised 2017 and 2018 numbers, see Tourism Data Explorer V2.5.
For further information, see NVS methodology.
